FIRST HYDRO POWER UNIT WAS COMPLETELY REPLACED AND PUT INTO SIRVICE AT UST-KHANTAISK POWER STATION WITH ACTIVE PARTICIPATION OF UIMDB JSC SPECIALISTS

On 20th November 2015 a new hydro power unit, produced by Tyazhmash JSC, fitted with remote control system for hydro power units, developed by UIMDB JSC, a member of KRET JSC, was put into service in Ust-Khantaisk power station, one of key divisions of Norilsk and Taimyr energy company.

Within this project during the period from September to November of 2015 UIMDB JSC specialists performed supervision installation and commissioning of SAUG No. 4 equipment complex of Ust-Khantaisk power station. They also provided idling start-up of the hydro power unit with and without supplying excitation to the hydro generator, testing of synchronization and measurement system, testing of conditions of normal/emergency stop of the hydro power unit in the automatic mode.

Ust-Khantaisk Power station reconstruction will result in significant improvement of operation safety, convenience of service and maintenance of the equipment and great increase of power production.

Ust-Khantaisk power station (Krasnoyarsk District, Snezhnogorsk, 160 km from Norilsk) is one of the most northern hydro power stations in the world and is also a hydro power station of underground type, i.e. the machine hall is located in a rock body and the turbine lies at the depth of 60 m. The extent of the hydro power station dams is nearly 5 km. As a result of the reconstruction the power of the station will increase by 50 MW. Onik Aznauryan, vice-president of "Norilsk Nickel", the head of the block of non-productive assets of MMC estimates this event as a strategic one which purpose is to increase reliability and efficiency of all fuel and energy complex of the company.

Experts estimate start-up of the new hydro power unit and on the whole implementation of this large project on reconstruction of Ust-Khantaisk HPP as a key event for Russian power industry, especially taking into account today's economic and market conditions. It is symbolic that the start-up of the first reconstructed hydro power unit coincided with the anniversary of the hydro power station. 45 years ago on 20th November 1975 the first turbine of Ust-Khantaisk power station was put into operation.
